😏 We Lie to Everyone—Except This One Person

And sometimes… even that’s a lie)

Let’s be real for a second:

We’ve all lied.

Little lies.
White lies.
“Of course I’ve read the terms and conditions” lies.

Lying is part of being human.
Sometimes it’s survival.
Sometimes it’s strategy.
Sometimes it’s the only way we can try on the next version of ourselves before we become her.

But there’s one person you should never lie to.

And that’s you.

🎬 A Famous “Lie” That Changed Everything

Let’s talk about Jim Carrey.

In the early 90s—broke, unknown, and wildly ambitious—he wrote himself a check for $10 million for “acting services rendered.”
He dated it 5 years in the future and kept it in his wallet.

Was that a lie?

Kind of.
He had no contracts. No fame. No real reason to believe it was possible.
But he walked around like it was already true.

And five years later?
He was paid exactly $10 million for Dumb and Dumber.

That lie didn’t hurt anyone.
It helped him become the person who could make it real.

🧠 So… Is It Okay to Lie?

Here’s the honest answer:

Yes—if you’re lying forward.
If your lie is a doorway to the version of you you haven’t fully met yet.

Lies like:

  • “I’m totally confident” (when you’re still building it)

  • “I’m someone who finishes what she starts” (even if you just started that)

  • “I’ve got this” (even when you’re still proving it to yourself)

Those are intentional delusions.
And sometimes they’re exactly what you need to take the first step.

❌ But Here's the Rule You Never Break

Never lie to yourself.

Not the kind of lie that keeps you small.
Not the kind that protects your fear more than your future.

Lies like:

  • “This isn’t that bad.”

  • “I’ll do it when I’m less busy.”

  • “I don’t really care about that dream anymore.”

  • “I’m not ready.”

  • “Maybe I’m just not meant for more.”

Those are the lies that steal your future.

🕵️‍♀️ How to Know If You’re Lying to Yourself

Ask yourself:

  1. Am I downplaying something I secretly want?

  2. Am I pretending I don’t care so I don’t get disappointed?

  3. Am I avoiding something that would require me to grow?

  4. Am I staying “realistic” because I’m afraid to fail?

If you feel a gut punch reading that—you’re not alone.

We all lie to ourselves sometimes.
But the moment you see it—you get to stop.

✨ How to Stop Lying to Yourself (In 3 Simple Steps)

  1. Name the lie
Write it down exactly as it shows up in your mind.

“I’ll start next week.”
“I don’t have time.”
“This is just how I am.”

  1. Ask what it’s protecting you from
    What are you scared of?
What would happen if you dropped the excuse?

  2. Tell yourself a new, better story

“I’m scared and I’m allowed to try anyway.”
“I don’t need to be ready—I just need to start.”
“I’m not lazy—I’ve just never had the right support until now.”

Truth-telling doesn’t have to hurt.
It can set you free.

💬 If This Hit You—Share It

This is the kind of guide that unlocks something.
So if it helped you—send it to someone you love.

The people in your life deserve to stop lying to themselves too.

Text it. Forward it. Post it.
You never know who’s waiting for permission to dream again.
